Ann Baldwin Asbury Griffith, widow of Gerald Sousley Griffith of Ewing, died December
29, 2021 in Flemingsburg. She was born on March 11, 1933 in Nicholas
Co. to the late Hicel Faye and Lorraine West Asbury, was a member of the Carlisle United
Methodist Church, having joined on Palm Sunday in 1944. She graduated from Carlisle High
School in 1951 and attended Centre College and the University of Kentucky until her
marriage. She taught second grade at Mt. Carmel, Fleming Co. in 1953-54. She was a
member of the Fleming Co. Library Board for eight years, a charter member of the Nicholas
Co. Historical Society, a member of the Fleming Co. Garden Club and the William Dudley DAR.
She enjoyed growing flowers as long as she was able, and collected postage stamps from
1943 when her aunt gave her a stamp album and many stamps to start her collection. She
greatly enjoyed feeding and watching the many birds that came to her feeders.


She met her husband, Gerald, in 1951 on the 4 th of July at the Blackberry Festival in
Carlisle, and they married on January 3 rd , 1953, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. They spent many
happy years during his military career, living at Army posts both in the U.S. and Germany.
They made lifelong friends in those years, and then returned to his hometown of Ewing to
live, renewing old, and making new friendships.


She is survived by her four daughters, Cary Lynn Baldwin (Phil) Carl of Bracken
Co., Emily Susan (Donnie) Bain of Lexington, Mary Jane (Dwight) Lewis of Cynthiana, and
Elizabeth Ann (Mike) Mattox of Menifee Co., twelve grandchildren, Josh (Shannon) Pugh and
Joey (Melanie) Pugh of Lexington and Ray Charles Dawson, Jr. of Bend, OR, Sarah (Roger)
Vice of Carlisle and Alan (Tara) Curtsinger of Lexington, Brad (Wendy) Terrell, Scott (Summer)

Terrell, Anna Kristin (John) Wilson, Amy Carl of Bracken Co. and Dana (Eric) Hampton of
Fleming Co., Ben Mattox of Fort Collins, CO and Lainey (Victor) Pilewski of Meadville, PA,
seven great-granddaughters, India Nicole, Ella Rose and Molly
Catherine Pugh, Lucy Ann, Everly June, and Olive Frances Pugh, all of Lexington, and Sadie
Faye Vice of Carlisle, eight great-grandsons, Jayden Terrell, Bradyn Terrell, Braxton Dale
Hampton of Fleming Co., Cameron Griffith Curtsinger of Lexington, Jack Chesley Wilson, Lennox James Pilewski of Meadville, PA, Brylee Hampton and Isaac Hampton, and her brother-in-law, Sherrill Storey.
She was predeceased by her sister, Emily West Asbury Wolf, her brother-in-law, John
Wolf, her sisters-in-law, Sue Lynn Storey, and Nancye Evans, her son-in-law, Junior Terrell and
an infant brother, who died at birth.


Memorial services will be held Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Carlisle United Methodist
Church in Carlisle at 12:00 p.m. with a visitation from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
at the church.

There will be a private burial at Elizaville Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carlisle United
Methodist Church, Ewing Christian Church, the Fleming Co. Library, or any animal shelter.
