Arland Harold Tinelli, Jr., a distinguished veteran and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, at his residence in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. He was born on February 1, 1936, in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania to the late Arland Harold Tinelli, Sr. and Wilma Shawley Kostjal.
Mr. Tinelli lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a profound devotion to his loved ones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Frances Pauline Tinelli on November 7, 2023, daughter Julie Tinelli, two brothers James Tinelli and Blaine Tinelli.
Mr. Tinelli proudly served in the United States Army, where he enjoyed a full and commendable career. As a member of an Engineering battalion, he undertook several tours overseas, earning numerous awards and commendations in recognition of his commitment and exemplary service. His military career was a testament to his resilience, discipline, and unwavering patriotism.
Beyond his service, Arland Tinelli embraced many interests that enriched his life and those around him. His participation in Volksmarches revealed his love for community and physical activity, while his enthusiasm for bowling and fishing reflected a joyful spirit and a connection to the outdoors. A devoted animal lover, he cherished the innocent companionship they offered. Above all, he found his greatest happiness in his roles as a grandfather and great-grandfather, a source of immense pride and affection.
Survivors include his daughter, Teresa "Terry" Brown of Flemingsburg, Three grandchildren: Sara Lynn Ison (Michael), Tim Atchison (Sierra) and Robert Atchison, great-grandchildren: Briann Atchison, Martin Ison, Alyssa Atchison, Andrew Ison, Abigail Ison, Shaylynn Haney, Austin Barker, Natalie Haney, Emma Ison, Bentley Turner, Rylee Ison, great-great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Bonnie, Amelia and Owen. Additionally, he is survived by several nieces and nephews who treasured their bond with him.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 21, 2026, in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Flemingsburg with Brother Caleb Paul officiating.
Burial will be in the Clover Hill Cemetery on Clover Hill Road in Ewing, Kentucky with full military rites conducted at the graveside.
Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Flemingsburg is after 11:00 A.M. Thursday.
Pall bearers will be Tim Atchison, Robert Atchison, Michael Ison, Martin Ison, Andrew Ison and Austin Barker.
Mr. Tinelli's life was characterized by service—to his country, to his passions, and most profoundly, to his family. He leaves behind a lasting memory of strength, kindness, and love, which will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. His contributions to his community and country are deeply appreciated, and his legacy will endure through the generations of family he so dearly loved.
