Bernadette McIntyre

September 29, 1939 — July 24, 2013

Bernadette Ann Kirby McIntyre was born on Sept. 29, 1939, in Fleming County, and died July 24, 2013.

Her life centered on God, family and friends.

She was the devoted wife of Willis McIntyre for 53 years, until his death in 2012. After briefly working in finance and education, she devoted her energies full time to raising her family and assisting her late husband in farming.

A strong, vibrant woman, she enjoyed the outdoors and interacting with friends. She was well-known for epitomizing the motto 'cleanliness is next to Godliness.' She was an intensely spiritual woman who routinely placed the needs of others above her own. In addition to acting as a servant leader for her family, she was a trusted caretaker for elderly relatives, friends and neighbors, and worked as a nursing home volunteer. She always honored the souls of the departed, both in prayer and by loving care of memorials. She was honored as a Kentucky Colonel.

Bernadette is survived by her children, Sharon Lightner (George) of Maysville, and Scott McIntyre (Dr. Carrie) of Cincinnati. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph 'Sonny' Kirby (Jackie); her grandchildren, Shannon and Seth Lightner; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Blanch Kirby; and her elder sister, Irene Newman.
