Bettie Johnson

Bettie Ann Christman Johnson, 78, widow of Henry 'Jay' Johnson, Jr., passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the University of Kentucky Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on June 28, 1938 in Fleming County, the daughter of the late Chester Lee and Audrea Ellington Christman.

A 1956 graduate of Fleming County High School, Bettie attended Fugazzi Business College in Lexington, and worked at US Shoe as a secretary until the factory closed. Bettie was a member of Elizaville Christian Church and a former member of Tilton Christian Church. In addition to her involvement at church, Bettie was also a member of the Fleming County Democratic Womens Club, the Fleming County Hospital Auxiliary, the Ladies Christian Circle of Elizaville Christian Church, and she was a past member of the Fleming County Homemakers. Bettie was also a business partner with her brother in farming.

She is survived by: her brother, Donald (Louise) Christman of Flemingsburg; a niece, Angie (David) Graham of Flemingsburg; great-niece and great-nephew, Kaylee Ann Graham and John Lee Graham, both of Flemingsburg; step-children, Tam Belcher, and Michael (Renita) Johnson, both of Fleming County; step-grandson, Kenneth Johnson of Fleming County; her aunt, Ann Ellington Farris Wheeler of Alpharetta, GA; first cousins, James Neal (Linda) Farris of Milton, GA, Doris Jean Ellington (Charles) Gay of Greenville, SC, and Carol Christman (Charles) Brown of Lebanon, OH. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Elizaville Christian Church officiated by Rev. Richard Anderson, Rev. James Watkins, and Bro. Jim Wilson. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Friday, November 4th at the church. Burial will be in Fleming County Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Brown, Steve Brown, W.T. Brown, John Slone, Jim Farris, Tom MacDonald, Daryl Grannis, Steve Donovan, Van Alexander, and Mike Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Elizaville Christian Church, 1872 Mockingbird Hill, Flemingsburg, KY 41041.
