Clifton joined the US Army and served in Korea and was honorably discharged, he was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He worked at Booth's Bakery in Flemingsburg, Hobart's in Troy, Ohio, and back to McGee's Bakery in Maysville and Lexington.
