Donald “Don” McElfresh, 86, of May’s Lick, passed away Monday, July 11, 2022, at home with family by his side.
Don was born in Nicholas County on July 25, 1935. He was the son of the late Herbert and Helsie Watkins McElfresh.
Don, with his wife by his side, was a lifelong tobacco and cattle farmer. He was fulfilled by his dutiful caretaking of their land. He was a proud and providing father to his children. He was a doting Papaw to his grandchildren. Don enjoyed basketball, particularly the Kentucky Wildcats. He was a member of the Millcreek Christian Church.
Don is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie Newsom McElfresh and three of his children: Tony (Rita) McElfresh of May’s Lick; Holly (Robbie) Kimble of Maysville; and Mindy (Aaron) Seagraves of Lexington. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Hailey and Dylan McElfresh; Madelyn and Wyatt McElfresh; Aubrey and Kaden Kimble; Sophie and Larkin Seagraves. He is also survived by two siblings: Billy (Edna) McElfresh of Flemingsburg, and Patsy Vice of Sherburne, and sisters-in-law: Amanda McElfresh of Nepton and Barbara McElfresh of Ewing. Likewise, Don is survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his son Kelly McElfresh and his brothers: Jimmie McElfresh and Gene McElfresh.
Services at the funeral home shall occur as follows: Visitation on Thursday, July 14th, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and funeral on Friday, July 15th at 1:00 P.M. The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements at the location of: 405 South Main Cross Street, Flemingsburg, KY 41041. Don will be laid to rest at The Elizaville Cemetery.
