Doris Johnson Bays, a beloved member of her community and family, passed away on May 10, 2026, at Ohio Valley Manor in Ripley, Ohio. Born on December 30, 1943, in Sharkey, Kentucky, Doris lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her Christian faith, and her many interests.
Doris is remembered fondly for her devotion as a grandmother and for her talents in sewing, gardening, homemaking, and cooking. Her warm presence and nurturing spirit were felt by all who knew her, as she took joy in caring for her family and cultivating beauty both in her home and in her garden.
She is survived by her loving husband, Carl Bays; one son, Mark Bays and his wife Sarah of Goshen, Ohio; two daughters, Carla Davis and her husband Tim of Mayslick, Kentucky, and Deborah Brown of Hancock, Maryland. Doris is also survived by three sisters, Barbara Kay Vice of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Teresa Florence of Lexington, Kentucky, and Jewel Richardson of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Her legacy continues through her three grandchildren: Tiffany Diaz and her husband Paul, Hanna Malki-Bays, and Adrianne Orr and her husband Joseph. She was also the proud great-grandmother to Benjamin Orr, Piper Orr, and Elowyn Orr. Doris’s extended family includes several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Orville Johnson and Nannie Harris Johnson; her three brothers, Bob Johnson, Ronald Johnson, and Larry Johnson; and one sister, Wanda Dean Buchanan.
A visitation to honor Doris will be held on May 16, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Michael R. Gray Funeral Home, located at 405 S Main Cross St, Flemingsburg, Kentucky 41041. This will be followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Doughton officiating.
Doris will be laid to rest in the Goddard Cemetery
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
All arrangements for Doris Johnson Bays and family are under the care and direction of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home.
