James Vice Sr.

James Albert Vice, Sr., 81, passed away Monday, June 17, 2013 at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation facility with family by his side. He was born January 11, 1932, the son of the late Robert and Rosie Hysong Vice.

Mr. Vice was a well known farmer, landowner, and insurance salesman. He was an avid sports lover of the Fleming County Panthers and UK Wildcats. Mr. Vice was a member of the National Guard from 1946-1950. During the time he was a member of the National Guard, he was a DHIA Supervisor for Fleming, Bracken, and Mason Counties. He was a member of the United States Army 2nd Armored Division from 1950-1952. In 1952 he lost his right arm in an accident at Wald Manufacturing, after which he began selling insurance for Bankers Life and Casualty until 1970. He was also a crop insurance salesman for Carpenter Insurance until his retirement in 2004. Mr. Vice was also a livestock dealer, tobacco farmer, and sold milk for 25 years. After his retirement in 2004, he and his wife moved from the family farm, to Flemingsburg. He was a very active member of the community and enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and neighbors. He was appointed a KY Colonel under Gov. Paul Patton. He had been a member of Unity Baptist Church since 2002, served on the ASC Committee, and was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Vice is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geneva Hunt Vice, whom he married on January 12, 1950. Other survivors include: two daughters, Kathy (Mike) Russell of Maysville, and Marilyn Lee of Flemingsburg; two sons, Jerry Vice, and Jim (Brenda) Vice, both of Flemingsburg; six grandchildren, Anita (Jerry) Foister of Maysville, Michele Russell of Maysville, Donna (Patrick) Jones of Lexington, KY, Jamie Lee of Portage, WI, Jennifer Vice of Flemingsburg, and Bryan (Mindy) Vice of Richmond, KY. six great-grandchildren, Bethany and Garrett Foister of Maysville, Kalyn Gallagher of Maysville, Cameron and Keagan Lee of Portage, WI, and Bella Vice of Richmond, KY; and a sister, Wilma Jones of Flemingsburg.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 21st , 2013 at the Denton-Workman Funeral Home officiated by Bro. Kent Wilson and Bro. Charles Walton. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday, June 20th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
