James "Jim" Rawlings

January 2, 1944 — July 23, 2019

James “Jim” Rawlings, 75 of Ringos Mill, husband of 55 years to Patty Rawlings, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at home with his cherished family by his side. Born in Cincinnati on January 2, 1944, Jimmy was a son of the late Alvah S. and Iolene Jackson Rawlings. Jimmy retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation after 34 years of service and he also was a lifelong farmer who took exceptional pride in growing tobacco. An outdoorsman at heart, Jimmy loved being outside whether it be farming, Muskie fishing, and hunting all kinds including deer, turkey, grouse, and his favorite of all, fox hunting. He took great pride in breeding, raising, and training his pack of fox hounds for which he was known for across the state.  Jimmy was also a sports enthusiast, and loved cheering on his favorite teams; UK basketball, the Cleveland Browns and the New York Yankees. He will always be remembered by his family for his quick witted responses and sharp mind. Jimmy was also a wonderful story teller who could captivate his audience with one of his many great stories. And lastly but certainly not least, Jimmy loved his family more than anything. He kept himself surrounded by the things in life that reminded him of his family that he so dearly loved. Besides his wife Patty, he is survived by: his daughter, Natalie (Steve) Ayres-Shapiro of Lexington; his son, J.T. (Julie) Rawlings of Ringos Mill; his grandchildren, Mason Ayres of New York, NY, and Kate Shapiro of Lexington; his brother, Roland Rawlings of Lexington; his sisters, Kay (Rick) Davis of Crawfordsville, IN, Martha (Tim) Fritz of Flemingsburg, and Jan (John) Hershberger of Lexington; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends. Services for Jimmy will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, KY 40351. Arrangements are in care of Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home.
