Joe Denton

Joe Dudley Denton, 71, of Flemingsburg, husband of Judy G. Denton, passed away suddenly, Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Fleming County Hospital. Born in Moorefield, Kentucky in Nicholas County on May 31, 1942, he was the son of the late Wilbert H. and Virgie Shields Denton.

Joe was a retired licensed funeral director and embalmer and the former owner of Denton Funeral Home. An avid UK fan, and a member of Flemingsburg Christian Church, Joe served eight terms for a total of 29 years as Coroner of Fleming County. Upon his retirement as coroner, Joe was a driver for Licking Valley having logged many miles taking people where they needed to go, continuing to serve the people of Fleming County up until his death.

Besides his wife, he is survived by: two daughters, Robyn J. Potter of Mt. Sterling, and Libby (Chris) Cannon of Fleming County; a son, Joe H. Denton of Fleming County; a step-son, Travis Gardner of Flemingsburg; grandchildren, Shana (Josh) Cook, Lauren Cannon, Caleb Cannon, Taylor Potter, Carson Cannon, Katlyn Jo Potter, and Mallory Jade Gardner; nieces and nephews, Patti (Gary) Workman, Kirk (Paula) Flora, Kelly Flora, Greg (Tammy) Denton, and Nancy Sue (Kelly) Ray. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Jim Denton; and a sister, Sue Flora.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home, formerly known as Denton Funeral Home, by Greg Denton and Bro. Steve Hickerson. Visitation will be 4-9 pm Wednesday, May 7th at the funeral home. Interment of cremains will follow the memorial service in Elizaville Cemetery.
