Libby (Zeleles) Davis

Libby (Zeleles) Davis, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice Care Center. She was born on July 19, 1938, in Mt. Coal, West Virginia, to Greek immigrant parents, Christopher Zeleles and Rosa (Antonaros) Zeleles.

Libby lived a vibrant life, marked by her sharp wit, often expressed through her clever comebacks that endeared those around her. Her career at the Portsmouth Daily Times Newspaper showcased not only her dedication to her work but also her vibrant personality that shone brightly in every interaction.

Family was the heart of Libby's world. She is survived by her two daughters; Cindy Brown and husband Kelly of Portsmouth, Ohio and Julie Preston and husband Don of Minford, Ohio. Her beloved son, Chris Davis and wife Michelle of New Boston, Ohio. Libby adored her five grandchildren: Jennifer Rider and husband Nathan of Rosemount, Ohio; Matt Brown and wife Kourtney of Minford; Steven Russell and Kyle Davis both of New Boston; and Chase Preston of Flemingsburg, Kentucky. The joys of her life multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Evan Rider, Elly Rider, Adalynn Brown, Anderson Brown, and Marleigh Russell.

Despite her loving connections, Libby carried the memory of those she had lost close to her heart. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russ Davis, whom she cherished until his passing on June 16, 2021. The loss of her sisters, Pansy Zeleles and Ida Aho, and her brothers, Leroy Zeleles and Thomas Zeleles, created a void in her life, as did the untimely passing of her granddaughter, Chandler Preston. Yet, through each sorrow, Libby demonstrated resilience and an unwavering love for her family.

In her leisure time, Libby found joy in simple pleasures. She loved spending time with her family, relishing years of laughter, stories, and memories created together. Avidly indulgent in shopping sprees, Libby was equally passionate about her bingo games, where her competitive spirit sparkled. She could often be found cheering for her favorite Ohio State football team or enjoying the latest re-run of Gunsmoke or Bonanza, all the while keeping an ear tuned to Fox News.

Libby (Zeleles) Davis leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a fierce spirit that will be missed by all who knew her. Her wisdom and humor will linger in the hearts of her family, who are eternally grateful for the time shared with her. Though she has departed, the warmth and light she brought into this world will shine brightly in their memories forever.

Private family services will be conducted in the chapel of the Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg Ohio with Brother Steve Hamilton officiating.

Libby will be laid to rest next to her husband.

Casket bearers will be Kyle Davis, Chase Preston, Matt Brown, Steven Russell, Nathan Rider and Evan Rider.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the S.O.M.C Hospice Center, 2201 25th street, Portsmouth Ohio 45662.
