Lois Vanover

February 27, 1930 — January 21, 2019

Lois Geneva Vanover was born in Harlan County, Kentucky on February 27, 1930. She had six brothers and three sisters. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. She attended school, walking both ways in sun, rain and snow, through 11th grade. She met Willie Lincoln Jones, married and had three children: Claude (Diane) Jones, David (Judy-deceased) Jones, and Nancy (Earnie-deceased) Stephens Boyd (Bill). Willie was a corporal in the Army, fought in and survived WWII. Lois and Willie divorced in 1967. She married again to Noah Vanover who was from Bledsoe, KY. Noah was a Sergeant in the Army, fought in and survived WWII. Her beloved "Noy" (Noah) preceded her in death in 1987. She proudly worked at Cas-Walker's Super Market in Harlan, starting as a cashier and working her way from cashier to office manager. She worked there 15 years until she moved to Fleming County in 1989. She lived in Flemingsburg on Hall Road until she moved into Pioneer Trace Nursing Home, where she enjoyed crafting, bingo and bird watching. She was a devout Christian woman who ministered through music to many. She started music ministries in Harlan and Fleming Counties, playing piano and singing. She had five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, January 25, 2019 in the chapel of Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by Bro. Herbie Stallard. Visitation will be 12 - 2 pm Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elizaville Cemetery with the committal service officiated by her grandson, Rev. David W. Jones. Serving as active pallbearers will be Paul Stephens, Ryan Ashworth, David Jones, Josh Jones, Donnie Brooks, and James Kemplin. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Varney and Brian Jones.
