Lonnie Rigdon

July 5, 1940 — January 24, 2017

Lonnie Cleo Rigdon, 76, of Ringos Mills, beloved husband of 53 years to Bonnie Rigdon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born July 5, 1940 in Fleming County, he was a son of the late Frank and Ruby Thomas Rigdon.

A U.S. Army veteran, Lonnie was a retired forklift operator for Weaver Lumber and had also worked at Nestle of Mt. Sterling, post-retirement. Lonnie was an avid outdoors man and loved his gardens and flowers. He was also a loving people person who never met a stranger. Lonnie took great pride and joy in his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Most of all, Lonnie loved the Lord, and he wanted everyone to know that Christ died for all of our sins so that we could all be forgiven.

Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by: a son, Lonnie Rigdon, Jr. of Ringos Mills; two daughters, Ruby Rigdon of Okeechobee, FL, and Tonya (James) Spencer of Morehead; grandchildren, Timothy Hurst, Jr., Christopher (Kimberly) Hurst, Amanda (Josh) Wilson, Billy Hamilton, Aaron Black, Heather (John) Lee, Dalton Spencer, Austin Spencer, Zachary Spencer, Tanner Spencer, and Dillon Spencer; numerous great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren; siblings, Marion Rigdon, Doug (Patty) Rigdon, twin sister, Monnie (Ronald) Elter, Wilma (Richard) Smalley, and Carol (Jim) Hosier; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: a grandson, Dustin Hurst; two brothers, Bill and Johnny Rigdon; and sister, Ilene Young.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Sharkey Freewill Baptist Church, 2555 Sharkey Rd., officiated by Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr. and Pastor Elijah Sexton, with Military Funeral Honors performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 & Franklin Sousley VFW Post #1834. Visitation will be from 11am-2pm Tuesday at the church. Private burial of cremains will be in the Rigdon Family Cemetery.
