Lucy Della Hatfield, 69, of Carlisle, formerly of Flemingsburg, wife of Everett L. Hatfield, Jr., passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Friday, May 12, 2017. Born March 17, 1948 in Beattyville, KY, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Angel and Oma Brandenburg, and step-daughter of George L. Brandenburg. Lucy was a former owner of Sunnyview Grocery in Fleming County. She loved animals and enjoyed volunteering at local animal shelters. Lucy also enjoyed cooking and being a homemaker. In her youth, she loved singing in her church choir, and she had a lifelong love of the outdoors whether it be going camping or traveling. Lucy also loved people and being around people. Besides her husband, she is survived by: three children, Jonathan (Stephanie) Thomas of Tennessee, Opal (Christopher) Sawyers of Paris, KY, and Joseph (Kelly) Thomas of Florida; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Jean Jones of Ohio; and two brothers, Jimmy Angel of Independence, KY, and Pat Angel of Covington, KY. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by: her first husband, Achie Collins, Jr.; a daughter, Naoma Hart; two sisters, Ruth Bell, and Cheryl Smith; and five brothers, Sam, Bob, Russell, Billy Gene, and Joseph Michael Angel. A graveside service, with burial to follow, will be 1:00 pm Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Fleming County Cemetery officiated by Hospice of the Bluegrass Chaplain - Rev. Ricky Snyder. Visitation will be 10am -' 12pm Friday at Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home in Flemingsburg. Memorial contributions are suggested (In Memory of Lucy Della Hatfield) to the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Foundation, P.O. Box 34184, Lexington, KY 40588.
