Mary McCormack

Mary Ann McCormack, 82, of Flemingsburg, widow of Col. Glen R. McCormack, passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 at Fleming County Hospital. Born February 22, 1932 in Danville, KY, she was a daughter of the late Jonathan David 'J.D.' and Mary Holtzclaw Rankin.

A graduate of Danville High School and the University of Kentucky, Mary Ann was a retired teacher, and a former Home Ec Agent in Spencer County. She was a member of the Flemingsburg Christian Church where she was also active in the Christian Womens Fellowship (CWF). Mary Ann was past PTA president, a member of the Farm Bureau Womens Group, Secretary of the William Dudley DAR Chapter, and a former 4-H Leader for ten years. She was also past President of the Garden Club. Mary Ann was an avid floral arranger and gardener, and she loved UK basketball.

She is survived by: three daughters, Patsy Ann McCormack (Thomas Allen) Ekers of Georgetown, KY, Mary Lou McCormack of Flemingsburg, and Luci Kay McCormack (Gary) Riebel of Bath County; grandchildren, Casey Ekers (Daniel) Woods of Lexington, Lauren Ekers of Lexington, and Ryan Drew McCormack of Louisville; a step-granddaughter, Jaime Bennett of Louisville; and a brother, Paul Rankin of Boyle County. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: a son, Joseph Lee McCormack; two brothers, Thomas and Joe Rankin; and a sister, Patsy Rankin. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Flemingsburg Christian Church officiated by the Rev. Peter Morgan and the Rev. Norman Wasson. Burial will be 2:00 pm in The Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Wednesday at the Flemingsburg Christian Church. Pallbearers will be Jerry Rankin, Billy Rankin, Mark Henderson, Daniel Suit, Nina Elmore, Barry Rankin, and Ben Rankin. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Rankin, Bill Sims, Billy Bruce Grannis, Marvin Suit, and Mac McCormack. Memorials are suggested to the Flemingsburg Christian Church Scholarship Fund, 201 E. Water St., Flemingsburg, KY 41041 or the McCormack Church in Lincoln County, c/o Leslie Carter Thomas, 1403 Northwood Rd., Louisville, KY 40207. Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home is in care of funeral arrangements.
