Parkey Thompson

May 12, 1941 — October 7, 2018

Parkey Lloyd Thompson, age 77 of Flemingsburg, beloved husband of Helen Thompson, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 7, 2018. Parkey was born on May 12, 1941 in Maretburg in Rockcastle County, a son of the late William Lloyd and Bonny Hazel Bradley Thompson. A 1959 graduate of Brodhead High School, Parkey was a retired Postmaster from the U.S. Postal Service and Flemingsburg Post Office. Parkey Thompson was a faithful servant to the Lord throughout his life having served as a lay minister to many people during their time of need, whether it be making hospital visits, preaching a sermon, or conducting a funeral. He was a member of the Flemingsburg Baptist Church, a former member of Unity Baptist Church, and attended Kathleen Baptist Church in Lakeland, FL during the winter months he and Helen lived in Florida. Parkey was a member of Gideons International, former Chaplain of the State Postmaster Association and a Kentucky Colonel. He also was a former driver for Licking Valley for several years and a part time employee at Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home until his illness. Parkey was a family man and was loved by all who knew him. He also loved to pull pranks on people and get a good laugh. Parkey loved to laugh and he enjoyed people. Even in the most serious situation, Parkey found a way to lighten the moment, even all the way up to the end of his life. Upon Parkey's diagnosis of the disease that would take his life, he never complained one time.... instead, he told everyone how blessed he was and how good God has been to him. Parkey loved to tinker with tools and being a handy man. He loved going to McDonalds in the morning and drinking coffee with his buddies, and he also loved to go fishing and camping. He and Helen also loved to travel, having traveled the world together. And we wouldn't be doing Parkey justice if we didn't mention that he was the "King" of finding a good deal and "saving things". There are not enough words to sum up the life, of the wonderful, caring, humble, devoted, Christian man that Parkey Thompson was, and will always be remembered as being. He has left his mark not only in our hearts and minds, but in our lives. Besides his wife, he is survived by: his four children, Parkey Lloyd (Lisa) Thompson, Jr. of Cumming, GA, Tammy Joyce (Douglas) Switzer of Cynthiana, Tracey Eileen (Steve) Rials of Union, KY, and Kevin Matthew (Angie) Thompson of Mayslick; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Billy Ray (Gayle) Thompson of Mt. Vernon, Larry Franklin (Carolyn) Thompson of Mt. Vernon, and Roger Dale (Donna) Thompson of Lawrenceburg; a sister, Nancy Carol (Billy Gene) Sigmon of Mt. Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Gary Everett Thompson; and an infant child.
