Verlyn James

July 5, 1923 — December 4, 2014

Verlyn C. James, 91, of Flemingsburg, widow of Sam James, passed away Friday, December 4, 2014. Born July 10, 1923 in Hillsboro, she was the daughter of the late Leslie Lee and Anna Ethel Markwell Crawford. Verlyn was a member of Poplar Plains United Methodist Church and used to be active in the Homemakers Association.

A graduate of Mamie McCann's Business School, Verlyn worked at the Bluegrass Army Depot at Avon, the Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the Warren Robins Air Force Base in Georgia during WWII. After WWII, she moved back to Kentucky and worked at Production Credit Association until retirement. She loved cooking and collecting antiques.

Survivors include: three sons, William Larry (Joyce) Coffey of Prescott, AZ, Garrell Wayne (Rhonda) Coffey of Flemingsburg, and Johnny (Jennifer) James of Elizaville; three grandchildren, Gara Coffey of Atlanta, GA, Tomeka Ann (Nathan) Ogden of Santa Barbara, CA, and William (Katie) Coffey of Omaha, NE; five great-grandchildren, Olivia Maria Ogden, Kyler Austin Ogden, Logan Ogden, William Liam Greyson Coffey, and Adelyn Marie Coffey; and a brother, Marion Markwell Crawford of Grange City. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Estin Crawford. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Richard Engle. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Sunday, December 7th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fleming County Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be William T. 'Tommy' Carpenter, Terry Carpenter, Donnie Carpenter, George David Carpenter, Bobby Gibson, and William Hendrix. Honoarary pallbearers will be Gerald Carpenter and Paul Carpenter. Memorials are suggested to a charity of one's choice. Condolences may be made at www.carpenterfritzvicefh.com
