Mrs. Betty Jean Gulley, 91 of Wallingford, Kentucky passed away Friday evening June 11, 2021 at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead, Kentucky after an extended illness. She was born at Craintown, Kentucky on November 18, 1929 to the late George and Chloe Lee McKee.

Betty was a retired Postmaster having worked at the Wallingford Post Office for over 36 years. She was a graduate of Millers Business School in Cincinnati, Ohio and was a member of the order of the Eastern Star and a member of NARFE. She was a longtime member of the Wallingford United Methodist Church. Prior to working at the post office she worked for 10 years at the Farmers Deposit Bank.

Family was always very important to Betty, when it came to them she was a loyal protector, friend and defender. She enjoyed family get-togethers and all of her family knew that their attendance at family reunions and Christmas Eve dinner at her house was always mandatory.  She enjoyed game shows, especially Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She was a fan of Barnwood Builders and her friend Johnny Jett.  She found enjoyment  in many small things in life, front porch sitting, collecting Elephant figures, a McRib sandwich, Facebook, a new haircut and a fresh perm, doing for others, sending cards, playing cards with her "card girls"  and playing solitaire or "solitary" on the computer as she called it. Betty was a very strong and proud lifelong Republican.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years Ova Junior Gulley.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers; Virgil McKee, George McKee, Jr. and Bob McKee also one sister-in-law, Corine McKee.

Survivors include two daughters; Cindy Lou Rhodes  and Patricia Ann Richmond and her husband Steve all of Morehead, Kentucky. Five grandchildren; Paul (Samantha) Rhodes, Mark (Jill) Rhodes, J. D. Patrick, Beth Richmond (Jared) Ellis and Gabe (Shelby) Richmond. Five great-grandchildren; Ainsley Rhodes, Declan Rhodes, Jackson Ellis, Macy Ellis and Elijah Richmond.

Two sisters-in-law; Janice McKee and Wanda Jo McKee. Also, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including her caregivers, Janice Maher and Marsha Hunt who are like family.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, June 15, 2021 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Flemingsburg with Carla Doyle White speaking.

Burial will follow in the Wallingford Cemetery.

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Flemingsburg is from 5 pm until 8 pm Monday evening.

Pall bearers will be Paul Rhodes, Mark Rhodes J. D. Patrick, Jared Ellis, Gabe Richmond and Steve Richmond.

Contributions are suggested to the Community Center at the Wallingford United Methodist Church, c/o Pat Richmond, 144 Limousine Lane, Morehead, Kentucky 40351.
