James Farley

James Anderson Farley, retired Kentucky State Police officer for 26 years, passed from this life on December 20th, 2021.

He was born on May 11, 1935 to the late Anna Lee Warden, and LaForest Nelson Farley. He was raised by his late grandparents, Dollie Lee and William Anderson Warden, who also raised his 2 sisters along with 11 of their own children.

James served in the US Army during the Korean War as a military police officer.  He was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in law enforcement.  After his retirement from the Kentucky State Police, he served 16 more years with the state for a total of 42 years.  He was a long time member of the Masonics and a dedicated member to the Shriners Oleka.  He was also a lifetime member of the Christian Church, with over 60 years at the Flemingsburg Christian Church.  Every day of his career and life, it can be said; in his heart he displayed the love found in John 15:13 “Greater Love had no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friend.” In uniform or not, he was always there with a smile, lending hand and warm heart.

He was married on September 28, 1962 to the late Nancy B. Hall for over 53 years.

He is survived by a daughter, Denise (John) Madden; grandchildren, Erica Farley (Troy) Archibald, Christopher (Lauren) Madden, Corben (Shayna) Madden and J.J. Madden; and his great-grandchildren Chase, Nicole and Keirsten Archibald and Andrew Madden and Lenox Madden.  He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Phyllis (Cecil) Hurd, a sister-in-law, Patti Hall, sister-in-law, Connie (Jimmy) Williams and a brother-in-law, Dennis Ellison.

Besides his parents and wife, James was preceded in death by his sisters, Jo Ann Estes and Rose Marie Ellison; his eldest son, John Keith Farley and his wife, Kathy, and their child, John Anderson Farley; his youngest son, William “Bill” Farley; and his brother-in-law, John “Johnny” Hall.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021 at the Flemingsburg Christian Church officiated by the Rev. Marty Voiers.

Visitation will be 5-8 P.M. Tuesday, December 28th at Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky.

Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home by the Fleming County Masonic Lodge No. 112.

Burial will be in the Fleming County Cemetery.

Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the W. N. Fant American Legion Post No. 5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post No. 1834 and final rites will be presented by the Kentucky State Police Honor Guard at the cemetery.

Pallbearers are the grandsons; Christopher, Corben and John “J.J.” Madden and Chase Archibald and John Madden.

Honorary Pallbearers are Aaron Flora, Charles Glascock, Cecil Hurd, Lucian Johnson, Jack Reed, Sherrill Story, Jase Fidler and Danny Carpenter.
