Louis Shannon

Louis R. Shannon, age 87 of Hillsboro, widower of Atha C. Shannon, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020 at his residence. Louis was born at Hilltop in Fleming County on August 26, 1932, a son of the late Jasper Durham and Hattie Dee Harbett Shannon. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, Louis was a retired truck terminal manager with Moon Freight Lines Inc., living thirty-one years in West Rutland, Vermont. Louis was a member of the West Rutland United Church and a volunteer firefighter with the West Rutland Fire Department. Upon retirement, they moved back to Hillsboro in 1994 where they were members of the Hillsboro Christian Church. Louis enjoyed travelling the country with his wife, and tinkering in the garage and around the house, always finding something to fix “whether it needed it or not”.  Louis loved Christmas and enjoyed opening his presents or receiving a gift no matter what time of the year. He was a very generous soul who would help anyone in their time of need. He was known to give kids a quarter every time he saw them and tell them, “don’t spend it all at once”. Louis is survived by: two daughters, Marsha A. Shannon and Sharon E. Shannon, both of Lexington; a son, Kevin D. Shannon of Hillsboro; three grandchildren, Abby C. Shannon of Mt. Carmel, Alice M. Shannon of Ewing, and Adam D. Shannon of Hillsboro; a brother, Rondal (Bonnie) Shannon of Fleming County; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by: a grandson, Kyle D. Shannon; and three brothers, Alex Shannon, J.B. Shannon, and Emerson Shannon. Funeral services will be private at Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home with private burial to follow in Elizaville Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Abby Shannon, Alice Shannon, Adam Shannon, Jack Shannon, Sr., Jack Shannon, Jr., Josh Shannon, Gary Shannon, Jerry Shannon, and Lennie Eubanks. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hillsboro Christian Church, 85 Denton St., Hillsboro, KY 41049.
